The Combined Book Exhibit

FAQ
Who is the Combined Book Exhibit?
The Combined Book Exhibit is a privately owned company that has been serving the publishing and library communities since 1933. With 75 years of experience under their belts, The Combined Book Exhibit is the premier venue for publishers to expose their books to the library, education, and other markets. The Combined Book Exhibit displays at over 20 trade shows around the world each year, representing small and large publishers who may not have the resources to exhibit on their own.
Why use their service?
The Combined Book Exhibit has 75 years of experience and seniority at many of the largest and most important book fairs in the world, that have over almost a million in combined attendance. The Combined Book Exhibit allows publishers who may not be able to afford the expense of contracting and staffing a booth at these fairs have their title(s) on display for the attendees to see and read. They also display DVDs, Audiobooks, periodicals and other media for the attendees to learn about during the shows.

Does CBE only reach the library and education markets?
While the library and education markets represent most of the shows CBE attends, as well as the shows they have been attending the longest, The Combined Book Exhibit also attends shows for bookselling and rights and distribution sales, such as The Beijing International Book Fair and The Frankfurt Book Fair. CBE also partners with the show organizers of Bookexpo America, The London Book Fair, and Bookexpo Canada to mount The New Title Showcase—an official exhibit at each fair that serves the same purpose as a traditional Combined Book Exhibit. What is The Book Checkout?
The Book Checkout is an updated service by The Combined Book Exhibit to allow publishers to market their titles specifically to the library and education markets. The Book Checkout is heavily geared towards the library market, and is designed to provide publishers a venue to market their titles with the exact information the library and education markets would need (like wholesaler and distribution information, review citations, Dewey Decimal Categories and more)—information that is not normally included in traditional marketing venues.
So, it’s like a virtual Combined Book Exhibit?
It works very much like a physical Combined Book Exhibit, and with The Combined Book Exhibit’s name, it has all the credibility of 75 years of dedicated service to the library and education markets.
Why pay to list my books on The Book Checkout when they can be listed on Amazon for free?
Unlike Amazon or other bookselling websites, The Book Checkout includes specific information for reaching the library and education markets. Also, unlike bookselling venues, The Book Checkout doesn’t require a buyer or acquisitions person to decide to carry your title. The Book Checkout also doesn’t take any cut out of books sold as a result of having your books listed here on The Book Checkout (though The Book Checkout does NOT sell books).
What are the benefits of listing on The Book Checkout if I can’t sell any books on it?
While The Book Checkout does not complete transactions on the site, your listings will include all pertinent information to generate sales. Additionally, if your title(s) are sold on Amazon or Barnes and Noble, then your title(s)’s entry will include links directly to their page on Amazon or Barnes and Noble’s websites, with one click to purchase. Additionally, when selling to the library and education markets, most sales occur via wholesaler or distributor, and not directly from the publisher or retailer.
